Margaret Belle “Maggie” Brown, the youngest daughter of John M. and Elizabeth (Fox) Brown, married Maurice Harbaugh on September 18, 1893, at her parents’ house in Euclid near Mt. Zion. This house is on Raven Rock Road on property that is now the Red Heifer winery.
Wedding of Nettie Harbaugh and Samuel Elmer Harbaugh reported in the Frederick News on October 31, 1892. The bride was the daughter of George M. and Savilla Brown Harbaugh, granddaughter of Jeremiah D. Brown, and great-granddaughter of Ignatius Brown.
Wedding of Salome Harbaugh and Daniel Swope reported in the Hagerstown Mail on June 9, 1899. The groom was the son of Simon Swope, grandson of Thomas Swope, and great-grandson of Michael and Mary Elizabeth Brown Swope.
Social News
This occurrence was reported in the Catoctin Clarion on March 14, 1878. Martin L. Brown is the son of William B. Brown and grandson of Ignatius Brown and is property is listed on the Hauver’s map across the road from Brown’s Cemetery.
Foxville news from the Frederick News of May 7, 1890 mentions Martin Luther Brown and other members of the Brown family who were connected by marriage. The Burhman physicians were cousins to both the William and John Nathan Brown families. As mentioned under the article on farming, potatoes were a profitable crop.

Euclid events were reported in the Frederick News on May 3, 1894. James Brown was the son of Jeremiah Daniel Brown and grandson of Ignatius Brown and lived near Mt. Zion. Leneas was Lenious Brown, son of Upton J. Brown. Fannie Brown was the daughter of James Brown and Maggie Brown was the daughter of John M. Brown.

Unfortunate Incidents
Account of fight between Ezra Brown and Harvey Buhrman on November 1, 1882
Report of accident sustained by Calvin Brown, son of John M. Brown, that resulted in his death reported in the Hagerstown Herald and Torch Light on January 4, 1894.
The following was reported in the Catoctin Clarion on April 4, 1894. According to family lore, Melvin Augustus Brown, a great grandson of Ignatius Brown, had a reputation for being a heavy drinker but in this incident supposedly was protecting a woman at the gathering from the unwanted attention of Mr. Gladhill. It was reported in the article on the “Brown Family” in Antietam Ancestors that Mr. Gladhill was killed, but there is no record of this or any obituary with a date that would match. Melvin was disowned by his father James Daniel Brown, and he moved to Iowa after the death of his first wife.
